I've had a fair few negative LFTs and a negative PCR. So I know it's not covid.
But this chesty cough is horrific

I've been coughing till I vomit for the past three days. It's one of the worst coughs I've ever had. I was convinced it must be Covid because my lungs are fucked, but PCR and 4x LFT say it isn't.

Yes, my son and I had it. He vomited from coughing, I nearly did. It was so bad I was convinced it was Covid, but no. Antibiotics cleared it up, but not quickly.

I'm thinking I might need antibiotics, how do you know if you do for a cough or whether it's viral ?

It seems to be hitting a lot of people. Everywhere I go I seem to hear someone with a hacking cough.

Antibiotics don't help if it's viral, which it usually is when you have a cold or flu.

I'm quite sure this is in part because we were largely bog standard illness free last winter - I work in a primary school and from sept 2020 - July 2021 I had one very mild cold back in September 2020. Unheard of!! My 2 primary age dc didn't have a single cough or cold over the entire period - also unheard of. So 1. We've forgotten a bit what this time of year can be like with coughs/colds etc and 2. We're all going to take a bit of a hit because of probably having a bit less immunity than usual.

My DS and all his student house mates have it. None of them have tested positive.

Yes me and dd have had it here. Cough only starting to ease almost four weeks on. Vile bug. I felt worse than what I did with Covid.

I have it...day 3....knocked out....negative covid tests....most of my neighbours have it also.

Yes we all had it - assume 2-3 full weeks to clear completely

I do not left bed since Friday. Had a high temp, pounding head, pains all over my body but my chest is rattling when I breathe so thinking its maybe at antibiotics stage. Now wide awake and can't sleep from coughing.

I know a couple of people who have had what they describe as a 'supercold'. It sounds horrendous and they have been quite ill. It took them a while to get rid off it. I do hope you feel better soon.

I was wheezing and my chest was crackling, and I felt very breathless after coughing, like I couldn't draw a deep breath. My GP said it was a chest infection.

4 weeks! I'm on week 2 of the cough and thought that was bad enough.

Yep I have it at the moment and have done for 3 weeks. Now on a second course of antibiotics. I had covid earlier in the year and I'm far more ill now than then.
Littlebrownhare Mon 11-Oct-21 10:24:17
@Ouchyhurt when do you know you need antibiotics? I'm assuming what I've got is viral as it started with a snotty nose etc.
Ouchyhurt Mon 11-Oct-21 10:25:31
I went to the GP after 2 weeks, she concluded that it was likely bacterial at that point, it still hasn't cleared and she has given me more antibiotics and ordered a chest x-ray.
